About us

For a long time, education has been a component of the Tamil community. The Sangam literature of the second century attests to this. Many historians have documented Tamil Nadu’s curriculum and teaching practises, which included songwriting, memorization, puzzle solving, and other activities. The 1822-26 Survey of Indigenous Education in the Province of Chennai is an example of a document from Tamil Nadu’s Indigenous Education System.

The East India Company did not take on the goal of imparting education among Indian people until 1813. The Board of Education was founded and generalised in 1826 by Sir Thomas Monroe, Governor of the Province of Chennai, to oversee and institutionalise the education system. The first batch grant for aided schools was given out in 1855, and by 1881, a large number of local educational institutions had stepped forward to help. The nature of the curriculum, instruction, learning materials, and instructors’ roles were drastically altered as a result of the provincial government’s rules and regulations aimed to offer financial aid.

Local Boards were established under the Local Boards Act of 1871, and they were given the authority to open schools and receive government grants. The Chennai Provincial Basic Education Act of 1920 allowed local governments to collect an education special tax on land or property taxes to support primary education.
